If you oppose the installation of towering wind turbines on the landmark black lava buttes overlooking Pipes Canyon, one topic of discussion at this month's meeting of the Homestead Valley Community Council will be of great interest to you. The Department of Fish and Wildlife proposes to change the length of permit periods to take bald and golden eagles, from five years to 30 years. The Council will discuss their draft protest letter at the meeting on Monday, May 21.

The Homestead Valley Community Council added its voice to the local water districts that oppose the State Water Resources Control Board's proposal to change requirements for septic systems. The state agency proposes changing regulations to require property be a minimum 2 ˝ acres if the dwelling would use a septic system.

Protesters call fire fee double taxation - Homestead Valley files complaint

“Homestead Valley properties in the designated State Responsibility Area are already assessed for fire prevention and protection,” Jim Harvey, the community council’s president, wrote in a letter to the state’s Office of Administrative Law. “We believe this proposed fee is nothing more than a tax and will constitute double taxation.”
